# Identifiers and keys

> Guidelines for consistent identifiers and keys in Voyado Elevate, covering case sensitivity, Engage SKU compatibility, key length, and allowed characters.

To ensure proper integration with Voyado Elevate, retailers must establish and follow consistent identifier and key conventions. These guidelines must be clearly communicated to both integrators and Voyado.

## Key guidelines

* **Consistency** — Use uniform identifiers and keys across all integration points.
* **Case sensitivity** — All identifiers and keys are case-sensitive.
* **Engage compatibility** — Elevate variant keys must match Engage SKU IDs to gain the synergistic benefits from using both systems.
* **Key restrictions** — The maximum length of keys, for example product and variant keys, is 50 characters. Allowed characters are `A-Z`, `a-z`, `0-9`, and `#+./_-`.
